Blurb #3: Executive Secretary

Hey there chicken tenders!!! I hope week six is going well for you all and that everyone is not too stressed out yet. In times of stress, I recommend dancing and food; they’re quite soothing.

Anywho…. for those of you who don’t know me and are not acquainted with me, my name is Rashida Blade and I am your current Secretary Chair for BSU! I am a fourth year transfer student, so officially this is my second year at UCI. I am a double major in African-American Studies and English with a minor in creative writing. So if any of you need guidance or some editing done with writing papers, I am more than willing to lend a helping hand!!! I have a lot of goals when it comes to my future, one of them being going to graduate school to get my M.F.A [Masters in Fine Arts]. Working as an editor with a magazine and eventually creating my own is something I strive to do, as well as, and hopefully writing [at least one] best seller. I’m also very passionate about people, especially black people, so I would love to always be a part of non-profit organizations, both on and off campus.

All of my classes have been a challenge to me, which I enjoy because I like being challenged, but the one that has impacted me the most was Dr. Tiffany Willoughby-Herard’s African-American 40C class. One of the most impactful things about that class was the moments of silence we would have before each class in memory of someone that may have been “forgotten” in the black community, who was murdered by hate. That really touched me and reiterated my reasoning for the path I want to follow in life.

My duties and responsibilities, for my position, are all about organization and being on top of things. I’m in charge of taking notes for every board meeting that we, as an executive board, have, making sure to keep track of all the vital points that are discussed so we can look back at them for reference and for those unable to attend a meeting. Also, it’s my responsibility to keep a roster of the people who attend the Black Student Union meetings, people’s emails, years, whether they have paid or not for events/membership. We also keep binders with information regarding our positions, as executive board members, and it is my job to make sure everyone has their binders ready to pass down to the next board team. Overall, the secretary keep things organized and filed for the constituents and executive board.

Hit me up: rblade@uci.edu [&if you want the digits email me or ask in person…. I just don’t want to post it so creepers can’t snatch it]

Anonymous asked: As a black student here at UCI I just don't think the BSU is approaching all of this correctly. I don't think anybody is in the right in response to this act

Everyone’s entitled to their opinion. Although, it’s important to note that “this act” is not our concern or issue. Best wishes.
